HUMPBACK WHALE WATCHING

Between January and April each year, the Turks and Caicos Islands become host to a spectacular show, as Humpback whales make their annual reproductive migration. Mothers and calves are frequently seen in the waters around Grand Turk and Salt Cay, along with males and occasional breeding groups. Our experienced Captain and crew provide unforgettable experiences with these breath-taking animals, both from the surface and, if you're the adventurous type, in the water for a whale's-eye view.

Humpback Whale Watching

Seasonal (January - April) viewing of humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae)

Experience the trip of a lifetime as you cruise in style and comfort looking for majestic humpback whales in the waters of the Turk's Bank. Deep Blue Charters' Captain Kell grew up in Salt Cay and Grand Turk, and nobody has a better understanding of humpback activity and behaviour in these waters. He is well-known for his connection to these incredible animals. Your whale watching experience will be guided by our trained and experienced marine biologist, who will be on board to answer your questions and provide information about these beautiful whales and their fascinating lives.

Whether you're staying on Grand Turk or just visiting on a cruise ship for the day, we can arrange the most convenient pick-up location for you. Our Captain will talk you through the day's activities as you take to the turquoise waters of the Turks Islands, where Humpback whales can be seen in their natural environment. 'I Comin' Now', our 31ft Stamas Tarpon, is beautifully equipped to travel in comfort and safety to the areas where these whales are most frequently encountered.

During the trip, the Captain will ensure you have the best possible encounter with these breath-taking whales. Known for their acrobatics, humpback whales are often seen breaching and tail-slapping. You may also be lucky enough to encounter a mother and her newborn calf resting in shallow waters. If the conditions are perfect, there is the possibility of slipping quietly into the water with snorkel gear to get a whale's-eye view that you'll never forget!

At Deep Blue Charters, we strive to create incredible experiences for our guests, whilst also being respectful of the whales during this critical phase of their life. As such, we follow international guidelines for whale watching, and all encounters, both above and within the water, are dictated by the whales.

During your trip you'll learn all about the research we are conducting through the Turks and Caicos Islands Whale Project. Find out how you can be a part of this research by contributing your photographs and videos and join the citizen science movement!

Deep Blue Charters offer half-day (3.5 hrs) and full-day (7 hrs) tours throughout the season. Morning trips typically depart at 9am and afternoon trips at 1pm. Half-day trips are available on a shared basis (minimum 4 people for the trip to run) or private charters. During whale watching season the trips fill up quickly, so it is advisable to book in advance!

Are you staying in Providenciales? We would love to help you arrange a day trip to Grand Turk for whale watching!
